You Have Had Low Back Pain for 2 Weeks Now and It Isn’t Getting Any Better. What Do You Do Now?

So you woke up a few weeks ago with low back pain. You thought to yourself give it a few days and the pain will go away, right? In the past, that is exactly what happened. Why would this time be any different you say to yourself?

Two weeks have gone by and you wake up to another morning of slowly getting out of bed. You are starting to think to yourself is this my new normal? Am I turning into one of those people who just wakes up everyday with low back pain?

This story is extremely common. I am a physical therapist and I have had this exact conversation with myself. My tendency is to ignore things with the hope that they will just go away. And for the most part, many aches and pain just resolve themselves.

My wife and I have a young son who keeps us very busy. Last year when I was taking my son out of the car to daycare I injured my back taking him out his car seat. I didn’t think much of it at the time.

But by the time I got to work I could barely move. Mind you that I am manual therapist who heavily relies on my body working correctly to treat my patients. I panicked. I could barely move without low back pain.

I knew I had to do something about this pain because I didn’t have time to hope that it would go away. So I called up a buddy of mine who is a physical therapist to treat my back.

And you know what? It got better right away. It only took several sessions to get me back to normal. And by normal, I mean I had no pain or sense of restriction in my back. It wasn’t 70-80% better. It was as if it had never happened.

We often wait too long to address the things we should. Our list of important things every day get longer and longer. We say we need to address the nagging pain for several weeks but actually don’t do anything about it.

At Axiom Physiotherapy, we can help you resolve that back pain that you know needs to be addressed. It isn’t so much the pain you wake up with in the morning, it is the idea that this might be permanent.

You might not be able to pick your kid up out his car seat. You might not be able to wrestle on the floor with your kids when you get home from work. You might not be able to sit on that car ride to go visit with family.

In Article 2 we will begin to discuss what 3 simple things you can do to help with your low back pain to feel better today.
